Inside the National Cathedral in Washington DC.

Construction began on the Washington National Cathedral in 1907. President Theodore Roosevelt helped lay the foundation stone. In 1990, 83 years after construction began, President George H.W. Bush oversaw the laying of the final stone atop the towers, in 1990. Among the many beautiful features of the Cathedral is The Resurrection Chapel located on the lower level. The only tile mosaics in the Cathedral are found there including one by Hildreth Meirère that portrays the Resurrection of Jesus, as shown in the photo. Our son Jackson lives in Washington DC and gave us a tour of the church in 2020.

In 1456, the invention of the printing press by movable type, led to the printing of the Gutenberg Bible. It wasn’t until the 1600s that the King James version of an English bible was available to the public, and today there are thousands of translations.

Around 400 AD, the books of the Bible were selected and compiled. The New Testament was written around the same time the Roman Colosseum was constructed.

This oval amphitheater in the center of Rome still stands today, as do the teachings of the Bible. One is antiquated and open for tours, the other a spiritual guidepost. Joy, Jackson, and Jack Harris, 2012.
